This lake was formed by mutliple of explosive volcanic eruptions 72,000 to 57,000 years ago and by the collapse of a group of volcanoes. During the recorded history no other volcanic eruption has ever been recorded in the area of Lake Coatepeque. It is a beautiful, clean, and sparkling blue crater-shaped lake. Along the shore of the lake there are several private beachhouses as this is a popular Salvadorean weekend getaway. Water sports such as scuba diving and water-skiing are popularly practiced here.

Puerta Del Diablo known as the "deviils door" is located to the South East of San Salvador. It is a great significance to the Mayan Pipil people, it was a sacred site used for sacrifice rituals. It was named "The Devil's Door" by the Spanish Catholics who constantly opposed indigenous religious practice. 

The Montecristo Cloud Forest is located in the Montecristo-El Trifinio National Park, about a 4 hour drive from San Salvador. The area marks the point where the borders of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras meet. Montecristo is a very popular destination for the adventurous travelers. his place contains some of the wonderful wildlife species of the country.
