Independence Day- National Independence Day is celebrated at  at public and private schools, as well as military bases. Each city organizes parades with the students participation that marches representing their respective school with their bands and group of cheerleaders. Each group holds the flag of El Salvador and their school flag. Special ceremonies are also held at the square "Plaza Libertad" located in downtown San Salvador with the participation of the President of the El Salvador accompanied by his cabinet members to address the nation a related message. 

August 31

Balls of Fire Festival- Every year on August 31, the whole community gather to throw gasoline soaked flaming rags at each other to tribute the eruption of a volcano in 1922 that forced all of the community of the town to flee. You will see painted faces and fire balls thrown in the streets and it is a great way to experience the culture of El Salvador. The festival attracts many people to watch the events and those who want to participate.

August

Fiestas Agostinas- This festival is held in the month of August each year and has a variety of things to do like sport tournaments, religious celebration, art shows, beauty pageants, food, dancing, parades, and many other events that you can enjoy while staying in El Salvador. This is one of the most popular El Salvador festivals. This is one whole week of partying  in honor of the patron “saint” of El Salvador which is Jesus Christ. An image of Jesus is carried through the streets to the Cathedral. The image is lowered into a waiting globe and then brought back up out of it, dressed all in white.
