DANCES

The Dance of the Chapetones

This dance is known in the town of Panchimalco. Twelve men aredressed in tuxedos while the ladies dressed in white that represents the Queen  The movements are danced to the music of a delicate waltz. 

 

The Dance of the little Bull 
This dance is performed feasts of the towns called "Nonualcos", especially in San Pedro. A man is disguised as a "little bull". There also are bullfighters who disguised and masked dancing to the rhythm of the drums and whistles attacking the little bull. 

 

The Dance of the Tiger

This dance is considered on of the oldest dances that came from the town Izalco. It is a little town in El Salvador.  It relates to a tiger hunt. In this dance the Indians are suppose to hunt the tiger. There are about 8-10 indians who are apart of this that dresses up for it. They are dressed in pants only and wooden masks that look like the gods. The man that is the tiger wears a tiger mask and tiger skins. This dance tells a story.

 





 

El Salvador Music shows cultural and religious influences. Roman Catholicism has made a great impact on the El Salvador culture, which is also reflected in the music of the country. Music in El Salvador features religious songs which are mostly Roman Catholic. These are used during the Christmas time as well as other holidays, especially during the feast days celebrated by the saints. Folk songs are also popular amid the El Salvador Music. The modern music includes cumbia, hip hop, salsa and reggaeton. But the traditional Music of El Salvador was greatly influenced by the native cultures. The Spanish conquest did play a role in the culture and music of El Salvador as well. Till this day, Spanish Music is popular in El Salvador. However some of the popular El Salvador Music includes Pipil and Maya, which are mostly based on drums, flutes and rattles. Popular music in El Salvador uses marimba tehpe'ch, flutes, drums, scrapers and gourds, as well more recently imported guitars and other instruments. Cuban, Colombian and Mexican music has infiltrated the country, especially salsa and cumbia.
